Spectrum Center Schools and Programs will host the 2012 STAR Parent Conference and Resource Fair from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 21 at the Spectrum Center Tara Hills Campus in San Pablo, Calif. Families in Contra Costa and Alameda Counties who have young children on the autism spectrum are invited to attend and learn more about local services, treatment, advocacy and research.

Educational Services of America (ESA) has appointed long-time educator Ralph M. Thompson as a business development vice president for ESA’s Ombudsman Educational Services division, which partners with more than 160 public school districts in 20 states to provide alternative education programs for dropout prevention and credit recovery.

Educational Services of America (ESA) has established a federally registered Institutional Review Board (IRB) to review proposed research studies involving ESA schools and programs.
The rigorous IRB review process for research projects conducted in association with ESA and its two strategic service divisions, Ombudsman Educational Services and Spectrum Center Schools and Programs, helps ensure all research is conducted in a manner that protects students, teachers, parents and public school district partners.

Revere Public Schools recently partnered with Ombudsman Educational Services to open Coast Collaborative Ombudsman Center. The center offers an alternative learning environment for students in grades nine-12 who are at risk of dropping out, have been expelled or who have dropped out and wish to return to earn their diploma.

Englewood Schools is partnering with Ombudsman Educational Services to open the Englewood Ombudsman Student Support Center. The center will offer an alternative route to a high school diploma for middle and high school students who have been expelled, are at risk of dropping out, or do not meet the requirements to attend Colorado's Finest Alternative High School (CFAHS). Space is available for 60 students in grades six-12 to attend the new center. Classes begin Aug. 11. Virtual school operator Connections Education is partnering with alternative education provider Ombudsman Educational Services to help Detroit students who have dropped out of high school earn the credits they need to graduate. The two organizations will operate Fusion Academy of Michigan, with space for 300 students in grades 9-12 during 2011-2012.

Alamosa School District is partnering with Ombudsman Educational Services to help nontraditional learners graduate from high school.
Spots are available for 75 middle and high school students who are interested in attending Ombudsman because they prefer a smaller class size and personalized instruction, require a flexible schedule to meet family or work commitments or wish to recover credits to graduate. Middle and high school students will attend one of two four-hour sessions each day.

The Summit will take place April 5 – 7, 2011, at SkySong, the ASU Scottsdale Innovation Center.
