• University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School of Education and the Milken Family Foundation Name Winners of the 2013 Education Business Plan Competition

  The University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School of Education (Penn GSE) and the Milken Family Foundation announced the winners of the 2013 Milken-Penn GSE Education Business Plan Competition (EBPC), held on May 7-8 on the Penn campus. Autism Expressed (Michele McKeone/Philadelphia) garnered the Educational Services of America Prize for Innovation in the Fields of Special Education and At-Risk Students ($20,000)

• ESA Operation Greeting Program Sends 10,000th Card to Troops Overseas

  This month, thousands of U.S. troops serving oversees will receive holiday cards thanks to the efforts of Operation Greeting, a program started by Jamie Turner, a North Georgia resident and operations manager at Ombudsman Educational Services.

• Crisp County School System Partners with Ombudsman to Help More Students Graduate (Cordele, Ga.)

  July 10, 2012

  Crisp County School System is partnering with Ombudsman Educational Services to open the Ombudsman Cordele Learning Center, which will offer a highly personalized, technology-rich blended learning program for 75 middle and high school students who have not been successful in traditional school programs, who are at risk of dropping out, have been expelled or who have dropped out and wish to return to earn their diploma.

• A Graduation to Remember: Hard work pays off for Ombudsman grads (Grand Island, Neb.)

  Thirteen young men and women were recognized for their hard work and dedication in becoming the class of 2013 for the Grand Island Ombudsman Center. Linda Sanders, the center’s director, noted that many of the graduates faced special challenges in earning their high school diplomas. She noted that several students worked 40 to 50 hours per week at the JBS packing plant yet still put in the time needed to earn their degree. Sanders said students earn their diplomas not only because of their own hard work, but also because of the support of their parents, siblings, other family members and significant others in their lives.

• Innovative Learning Center: 8 Months Later (Rockford, Ill.)

  [ILC] is helping Collins and grant recover credits quickly. Grant will now graduate a semester early to hopefully become a vet technician, a future plan she says probably wouldn’t have happened with the ILC.

• Ombudsman Edtrek takes strides for success (Holt, Mich.)

  Edtrek in Holt has seen increasing graduation rates in the past few years. The students are determined to receive the best education they can, according to Center Director Connie Ragnone. Edtrek is the alternative high school in Holt for students who desire more hands-on learning.
