Why did you go into teaching?

I had a strong desire to work with young people in their academic and social development.

Why did you choose special education?

Too often, students with disabilities are not given the attention and care that they deserve, yet they are all unique and talented. After having spent 35 years in education, I have developed a personal interest in working with students. Others don’t have the interest, patience or commitment to serve.

What keeps you motivated?

I’m motivated by seeing students develop socially and academically and realizing that I have played a part in their success. Here at Atlantis Academy, it has been most rewarding and gratifying to see academically and socially frustrated and defeated students regain confidence in themselves and in their abilities. Many of the students come to us hating school. After a short while at our school, we can clearly see that they are happy and feel at ease in school again.
